Let’s plant a forest under the sea
Seagrass is a critical player in the planet’s fight against climate change.
It absorbs carbon up to 35 times faster than tropical rainforests.
But every hour, 1 hectare disappears from our oceans.

Call for Reforestation
If you are a sustainability professional, we would love to speak to you.
For 30 minutes of your time, we’ll plant 5m² of seagrass and send you a certificate of our donation on your behalf.
We’re looking to better understand the challenges involved in sustainability management and make Emitwise a greater force for good. We’ll be asking questions like:
“What are some of the challenges you face with data collection?” OR “How do you currently track progress on sustainability projects / targets?“
With your help, we can donate £20,000 to Project Seagrass and contribute a 1,000 m² field of seagrass off the Welsh coast.
Together we can plant a forest under the sea.
The Seagrass Ocean Rescue project builds on cutting edge research from Swansea University and Cardiff University in Wales.
Project Seagrass is an environmental NGO devoted to the conservation of seagrass ecosystems through education, influence, research and action.
The organisation has run projects across Europe, Asia, and Central America to drive seagrass conservation worldwide.
- Seagrass can store carbon 35X faster than tropical rainforests.
- Globally, seagrass ecosystems are declining in area by about 5% per year. This decline could result in the release of large amounts of stored carbon.
- Since 1980, the UK has lost over 35% of its seagrass meadows. That equates to about 1.5% per year, or 2 football fields each hour.
- Seagrass meadows cover only 0.1% of the world’s ocean floor, but account for up to 20% of the total oceanic carbon burial.
